Citizens of St Kitts & Nevis&Grenada to Enjoy Visa Free Entry to Russia

On Thursday, September 21, the Russian Federation’s Foreign Minister, H.E. Serguey Lavrov signed bilateral agreements with both the Caribbean island nations on the margins of the UN General Assembly held in New York late last month.

The visa-waiver agreements signed by H.E Lavrov and Alvin Nimrod, who serves as Grenada’s Foreign Minister, Minister of Justice, Minister for the Affairs of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, and Minister of the Local Government of Grenada, as well as Foreign Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, the Honourable Mark Brantley, will allow citizens to travel visa-free for up to 90 days to each other’s countries without the need for a visa.

The agreements were signed at the 72nd United Nations General Assembly, which was held at the UN’s Headquarters in New York City.

“It is very good that on the UN platform we have the opportunity to complete bilateral and international agenda,” said Mr. Lavrov.

The agreements come into force 60 days from the date of signing (September 21, 2017) following notification of the completion of internal procedures necessary to implement the bilateral visa-waiver, just in time for travel during the end-of-year festive period.

Grenada and Russian Federation had penned a Memorandum of Understanding on visa-free travel in January 2017, and the signing of the September Agreement finally concretized the efforts of the two nations to establish a facilitated travel regime for nationals of their two countries.

“We know that you do not have a lot of embassies abroad and appreciate this decision,” Lavrov said.

Grenada and Saint Kitts, then, become the first CIP-countries in the Caribbean to have visa-free travel to Russian Federation. Grenada was already the only country to have such an agreement in place with China. Among all CIP-countries, visa-free agreements with both Russian Federation and China are a privilege unique to Grenada.

Established in 2013, Grenada Citizenship by investment Program gives applicants the choice between an investment in Grenada’s National Transformation Fund (NTF), starting at a minimum of US$200,000 for a family of up to four, or an investment in pre-approved real estate worth at least US$350,000.

The visa-waiver with Russian Federation significantly strengthens the popularity of the citizenship by investment programs of both St Kitts and Nevis and Grenada.

Established in 1984, Investment in the St Kitts Program via a fund contribution starts at USD150, 000, while an investment in pre-approved real estate worth at least US$400,000.

As a country heavily dependent on tourism, St Kitts and Nevis has consistently sought to remove barriers to nationals of other countries visiting for leisure or business and has sought to do so on a reciprocal basis.
