GOLDEN VISA PORTUGAL - EU RESIDENCY & CITIZENSHIP

Investment raised through Portugal Golden Visa program fell 6.8 percent in November 2021, year-on-year, to EUR 46.6 million, according to statistical data from the Portuguese Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF).

In November 2021, the investment resulting from the Residence Permit for Investment (ARI) program, more commonly known as Portugal Golden Visa, totaled EUR 46,669,413 which corresponds to a decrease of 6.8 percent compared to the same month in 2020 (EUR 50 million). Compared to October 2021 (EUR 46,408,694.42), the investment raised remained practically in line (+0.4 percent).

Of the EUR 6,057,663,503.19 raised in nine (9) years, most continues to correspond to the acquisition of real estate, which until November totaled EUR 5,471,573,948.60, with purchases for urban rehabilitation amounting to EUR 350,507,722.90. The investment resulting from capital transfer is EUR 586,089,554.59.

Since the launching of Portugal Golden Visa Residence Program that enables third country nationals to obtain a temporary residence permit to conduct business activities with visa waiver to enter national territory, 10,170 Golden Visas have been awarded: two in 2012, 494 in 2013, 1,526 in 2014, 766 in 2015, 1,414 in 2016, 1,351 in 2017, 1,409 in 2018, 1,245 in 2019, 1,182 in 2020 and 781 in 2021.

Since the beginning of the program, 17,014 residence permits have been granted to reunited family members, of which there were 1073 in 2021.

PORTUGAL GOLDEN VISA STATISTICS FOR NOVEMBER 2021

According to SEF statistical data, 83 main applicants received their ARI (golden visas) in November 2021, 64 of which were related to the acquisition of real estate (24 for urban rehabilitation i.e. EUR 350,000 renovated properties) and 19 through the capital transfer criterion (14 applicants for Portuguese Golden Visa funds and 4 applicants for capital transfer).

Concerning the country statistics for Portugal Golden Visa investors, in November 2021, nineteen (19) golden visas were granted to China, twenty (20) to the USA, ten (10) to Brazil, five (5) to Turkey, and another five (5) to Russia. Even though China’s numbers decreased in November 2021, it still represents by far the largest pool of Residence Permit for Investment (ARI) program investors. Furthermore, (109) residence permits were granted for family members accompanied the main applicants as their dependents.

The purchase of real estate last month totaled an investment of EUR 36,929,913 million, of which EUR 8,588,383 were for urban rehabilitation, while the transfer of capital totaled EUR 9,739,500.

In the first 11 months of the year, 781 golden visas were granted, of which 55 in January, 100 in February, 73 in March, 98 in April, 52 in May, 67 in June, 41 in July, 64 in August, 61 in September, 87 in October and 83 in November. During this period, the investment raised through this totaled EUR 415 million, a decrease of around 33 percent compared to the EUR 618.9 million registered in the first 11 months of 2020.
