The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) will open to new applications, announced the Canadian province.

The intake period for this year commences May 30th and will last until February 28, 2017, in which a maximum of 1900 applications will be accepted.

Although the conditions seem favorable in comparison to previous years, those interested are urged to submit their applications as soon as they can as the intake cap is expected to be reached before the end of the intake period.

The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) is tailored to wealthy immigrants who wish to invest and settle in the province of Quebec. In exchange for a minimum investment in the local economy, Canadian residency will be provided.

The Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP) is designed by the Quebec government to attract investors and their capital to Quebec, Canada. By investing in Quebec, the applicant and their immediate family are granted permanent residency in the province of Quebec as well as all over Canada, and thus investors are free to reside in any desired province of Canada.

The program is highly popular as it is one of the more accessible investor programs in the region and a welcoming alternative to the previous federal investor route, which has been closed for some years. It is the first of its kind in all of Canada and the second biggest program in North America following USA’s EB-5.

It is essential that interested applicants demonstrate business and management experience in order to meet the requirements of this program.

What management experiences do I need to opt for the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP)?

Prospective applicants must have acquired a minimum of two years of management experience in the past five years prior to applying for the Quebec Immigrant Investor Program.

The applicant should be managing a business where the employees occupy approximately two full-time jobs (exclusive of the applicant). Experiences in management should be in one of the following:
  • Legal farming;
  • A commercial or industrial business;
  • An authorized proficient business;
  • An international agency or a governmental position.
The investor should be responsible for tasks involving planning, managing and monitoring financial, human or material resources.

Notably, experiences obtained from apprenticeships, training, or diplomas in the field of specialty are not accepted as forms of experience.

Traditionally, the program offers applicants a month to submit their application. The cycle was extended to include almost two months earlier this year, and has now been opened for nine months.

No more than 570 applications will be accepted for processing from all around the world as Chinese people are given the opportunity to submit 1,330 applications. Candidates with an ‘advanced-intermediate’ level in French are not subject to the cap. Moreover, their applications are given priority processing.
