Top 7 Myths and Facts about Canada immigration

People often approach us looking for guidance on how to respond to false information they hear about business immigration to Canada. In this article, we debunk dodgy myths about Canada business immigration.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #1: I can be a Canadian permanent resident (PR) by buying a property in Canada.

FACT: At this time, there is no immigration program attached to buying properties in Canada. As a result, you may NOT immigrate to Canada by purchasing a residential, commercial or industrial property alone.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #2: I do not need an IELTS exam to immigrate to Canada as an investor.

FACT: Apart from Quebec Immigrant Investor Program (QIIP), if you just heaved a sigh of relief, you would be upset to know that this statement is NOT entirely accurate. Obviously, it is right if you plan on giving the CELPIP or TEF Language tests. Nevertheless, this is just an ambiguous statement given that the language proficiency tests have been very strictly incorporated into the Canadian business immigration programs and are a must.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #3: I heard that some Canadian business immigration programs help to obtain the Canadian passport faster than others.

FACT: For citizenship, it is same for all business immigration programs. After you land as a permanent resident, the faster you could apply for citizenship would be 3 years after you land.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #4: Canada offers second passport and citizenship by investment.

FACT: Canada does NOT (and never did) offer any second passport by investment, rather Canada offers permanent residence by investment

IMMIGRATION MYTH #5: I can apply for Canada Startup visa even if the investment is not genuine.

FACT: Concerning Canada startup visa program, money is an issue, but the most important issue would be genuine investment; no matter how important the money, if the investment is NOT in a genuine investment, then it is unlikely to lead to permanent residency.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #6: The processing time for any residency-by-investment program for Canada is 48-72 months.

FACT: At the moment, an investor could be in Canada in 12-18 months despite COVID delays through Canada Start up visa.

IMMIGRATION MYTH #7: Canada has a PR lottery.

FACT: Canada does NOT offer a designated Canada Immigration Lottery. Some websites will advertise that they do. These are can be misleading and some may be scams.
