Saint Kitts & Nevis launched diplomatic relations with Egypt

SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS INAUGURATED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH EGYPT

The people of St Kitts and Nevis and Egypt have moved closer together as both countries have established diplomatic relations. The Republic of Egypt and the Caribbean Saint Kitts and Nevis country signed a joint statement (Communiqué) to declare the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley called it a “diplomatic win” for his country. The news was shared by Brantley in his Facebook post. Establishing bilateral ties with the Arab Republic of Egypt will surely be a beneficial step for the Caribbean island country.

 

In the communiqué, both countries pledged to develop mutually beneficial trade, social, economic, and cultural ties in the interest of strengthening peace and international cooperation.

Establishing diplomatic relations with Saint Kitts and Nevis comes in light of Egypt s efforts to develop further communications and relations with various countries worldwide, a statement by the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

 Officially known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis — have officially established diplomatic relations, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and Mark Brantley, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saint Kitts and Nevis have signed a joint statement declaring the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the statement said.

The ministers met on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York early on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, according to Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez.

The meeting comes three days after the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis’ celebrated its 38th anniversary of its independence from Britain, which it gained on September 19, 1983.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed ways to initiate the bilateral relations between the two countries as well as to coordinate efforts and stances in the international forums.

St Kitts, together with Nevis constitute a two-island nation located in the eastern Caribbean Sea about 2,100 kilometers southeast of Miami in the USA. The area of the country is about 267 square kilometers.

Egypt is already having bilateral relations with the Caribbean nations of Belize and Cuba. The Arab nation established bilateral ties with Belize on May 6 in the year 1994, while with Cuba on December 8, in 1972.

St Kitts and Nevis is having diplomatic ties with more than 120 nations at the current time. A few days back, the island country has celebrated its 38th Independence day, during which the Prime Minister – Dr Timothy Harris, addressed the nation and highlighted the achievements that the nation made in the past thirty-eight years.
