While many stakeholders expressed concern about whether or not it would finally expire after the new May 5 deadline, U.S. Congress announced on Thursday the extension of the EB-5 Program to September 30, 2017.

As of Friday on April 28, 2017, the United States Congress granted the U.S. EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program a temporary extension—but only for one week. What is known about the Congressional decision to provide a temporary lifeline to the EB-5 Program is that the federal funding needed to sustain it will effectively run out once again on May 5, 2017, unless the U.S. government issues another continuing resolution.

Since 1992, the U.S. EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program has contributed to the overall GDP in the U.S. ranging in billions, but as of Friday, April 28, 2017, it’s set to expire once again unless U.S. Congress issues another continuing resolution. For foreign investors and entrepreneurs, business immigration to the U.S. remains of high interest, even with the program’s looming expiration date.
