On June 27, 2017, the Government of Canada announced that holders of an Antigua and Barbuda passport will now require a visa to enter Canada. The announcement also noted that all electronic travel authorizations (eTA) that had been previously issued to citizens of Antigua and Barbuda are null and void for traveling to Canada.

On June 19, 2017, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced amendments to Canada’s Citizenship Act, also known as Bill C-6, received Royal Assent. The amendments contained in Bill C-6 were made to reflect the Government of Canada’s efforts to simplify the process for foreign nationals who want to obtain Canadian citizenship.

Between 2015 and 2016, Canada’s provinces accepted a record number of foreign nationals, which totaled more than 320,000 in new arrivals. According to Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC), these numbers will remain at Canada’s objective of accepting 300,000 immigrants for the year 2017 and serve as “the baseline for admissions going forward.”
