The EB-5 immigrant investor program is an efficient and simple route for foreign nationals to obtain an American green card and live in the U.S.A. Successful investors along with their immediate family members (spouse and dependent children) are first issued a conditional resident status in the United States. Conditions can be removed after two years and permanent residence can be obtained. This can lead to future citizenship.

The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Visa grants a U.S. green card to foreign nationals who make an investment in a U.S. business. If after the initial two-year period conditions are met concerning the creation of 10 jobs for American citizens, the conditions are removed and the applicant and immediate family can become permanent residents of the USA.

In 2015, the US EB-5 program was set to reform legislation but instead, a decision was made to extend the program without any changes until September 2016. The program extension was due in part to disagreements between parties on increasing the investment amount as well as determining what exactly defines a Targeted Employment Area (TEA)
